In the one corner, we have Garden District Glam with:

Our Belov’d Revolutionary Sweetheart

Gone’s the revolution
Dissapear’d with out a trace
Our beloved revolution’s sweetheart
is now–his prom date

The prom is such a garish affair
with gloves, bow ties, and such
the two young friends instead
decided not to fuss

Out to eat in haste they flew
with their friend and his date
thought they left at 8 o’clock
they were five minutes late

Afterward they arrived back home
to change their clothes and shoes…
this night was not to be forgot by
either of the two

The sweetheart and her date it seemed
grew tired as were friends
and flirted forth upon the bed until
one did surrend

Was it love? Was it loss?
Did it, could it have a name?

Or was her dance card calling her
to return to a lover’s game?

The revolutions come and gone
or so it has been said
but “What the hell, he’s Craig’s best friend”
still churns throughout his head.

“And what about that girl
the one sache’ing around
didn’t you like her just last night?
Now what’s going down?”

The time is done, my well meant dame
to think, to write, to act

the revolution’s over, girl
and that, my dear, is that.

If sex is want
then sex he found
in cities and the hills
but if happiness’ desired most
then sex can’t cure your ills

One-night-stands and love’s demands
can smooth a well-meant prom
but only love can smooth out life
and set the course you’re on

So once again, it is asked
from another to his friend
can we set the course we take
or must this be the end?

And in the other corner, we have Kittle:
Drought of Ardour

Beloved and lost
I’ve left and gone
she tried, I tried
but this bird has flown

Page of white and
ink of black
the body electric
of pain-is wracked

Lost the sweet dream
of a noble guest
to divine love
from all of its tests

Overcast and cloudy
rainy and wet
the drizzle of frustration
became a torrent

It was such a
charming ignorance
the love we had
which has now left

The waters of ardour
now in drought
that our relationship is over
there is no doubt.

Parched desert, I hope.

The first piece is, to my mind, the better of the two, but then GDG is better than Kittle, so I guess it stands to reason.

I think it’s mostly subject material; I would HOPE that my poems have gotten better, not worse, as time progresses.
Of course, poetic license could be like hair… it thins and disappears with age.

Sorry sean mc, but I will have to agree with smokin and cast my vote for the first poem.

The slaphappy Sniveler
tossing pen caps with the clatter
and a SNAP on the table
Complaining and groaning
“Baratti-bitch is making us take notes”
Hypocritical and rude
“It’ll last a week”
Cocky and despising
“No one is good enough –for me.”

Perhaps…
in his own little world
he has friends
But in mine– he is alone.

Hey ugly boy, don’t you know?
I can be rude too.
