Unfortunate Names25 Jul 2005 10:28 pm
Today’s unfortunate name comes from HEB. I had to take a picture, since otherwise, I am sure you would think I was making this crap up.
“Golden Stream” brand Oriental Rice Cracker Mix.
Um, Golden Stream? Doesn’t that cost extra?
Ew.
And how stupid. I mean, how dumb do you have to be not to know what that sounds like?
Well, at least it’s resealable for freshness! You wouldn’t want this stuff to go bad I’d imagine.
Had an asian (from hong kong) friend once who told me that many of the merchandise has names that reflect landmarks around either their production areas or the area of their “inventor” or “creator”. This leads to some pretty odd combinations, although innocent, that we might find funny.
How about a fem hygene product developed somewhere near the border between Oklahoma and Texas. I’d be afraid to see “Red River” sanitary napkins…wouldn’t you?!!??
When I went to England with Chris Wiser back in 1990, he and I had been in the country for all of ten hours and were running on fumes. (We hadn’t slept in 24 hours.) But, we felt fine… fine enough to go grocery shopping with Aunt Norma. We’re walking through the supermarket, and suddenly Aunt Norma stopped by some crackers, pulled out a pack, turned to us, and asked, “Do you want some Digestives?” Sure enough, the crackers were of a brand called Digestives.
That was it. That bit of unreality pushed us both over the edge simultaneously and jet lag hit us with its full force.
We barely made it back to the car without collapsing on the pavement and sleeping.
(There might have been a point to this, but I don’t remember what it was.)
I would type something witty…but it appears I have fallen out of my chair from laughing so hard!!!
Digestives are good, or so I thought, until I found out WHY they are called digestives. They are made of bran. Hence the term digestives.
Imagine if Cracklin Oak Bran was made into crackers. That’s what they taste like. Good, but you don’t want to eat a whole box in one sitting.
You wouldn’t be sitting for long…
Excuse me?
Whatever. Yes, Jinny took the friggin picture, not me, I only downloaded it off the camera and posted it up. Fine.
